Welcome To The Home Page of Team South West (TSW) Juniors
Welcome to the home page of Team South West (TSW) Juniors Underwater Hockey club, you may also of heard of the sport called Octopush and both are fine !
We play every Saturday all year round at Dawlish Leisure Centre and additionally in Teignmouth Lido in the Summer.
We are a thriving team for ages 8 - 18 from beginners to Internationals and anyone can play regardless of size and background.
It's a cheap, fast and exciting sport played on the pool bottom.
Underwater hockey is fast, furious, and fun ... and you can join in.
NEVER played, don't worry ?
If you're not fit you soon will be, BUT you will need to be a competent swimmer with our coaching team will first teach you to snorkel to a competitive standard. In most cases we can achieve this in about an hour!
Lane swimming is terminally boring. Underwater hockey, however, keeps your mind alert - and your body fit!
Once proficient at snorkelling our coaching team can and have taken many players to both National and International standard. We are fortunate to have a coaching staff with international experience.
Several of our juniors play for Great Britain and many of our seniors players also.
We are reigning Great Britain champions at junior level and have held Under 13 and U16 National titles on several
occasions.
Underwater Hockey "Octopush": offers the most fun you can have in a swimming pool.
It is basically upside-down ice hockey played on the bottom of a swimming pool wearing snorkel, mask and fins and using a small "bat" to propel the puck.
The sport was first dreamt up by bored diver Alan Blake in 1954 during a particularly bad
winter and first played in Portsmouth Guildhall Baths and was going to be called Octopus !
Octopush now played in over 30 countries world-wide (Great Britain Ladies, including TSW ladies, are current world champions).
There are thriving competitions at junior level, between many universities, regional and national senior competitions, European and World Championships.
It is a very sociable and mixed team sport of great skill and extreme physical conditioning.
Sounds interesting ?
All equipment is available free of charge, so come on, dive in and give it a try !
Dawlish Leisure Centre, Sandy Lane, Dawlish, Devon EX7 0AF. Beginners from 4pm, intermediate / advanced from 5pm.
